Odds & Ends

Here are a few odds and ends pictures from this summer.

Love these sandals!  I bought them at at department store called Bealls in Sterling, Colorado for $15.  I had never shopped at a Bealls before, but they have them in different parts of the country like Florida.

Also, I did get down to the Yves St. Laurent exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.  I really wanted to see it and thought it was an opportunity not to be passed by, but I didn't want to make a special trip.  As it turned out, I had to pick up my nephew on July 2nd from the airport and the exhibit was ending on July 8th.  So, I went down the day before on a Sunday afternoon and stood in line with the throngs of others to walk through the exhibit.  Every one's ticket was for a specific time in 15 minute increments so that there was better flow and we didn't all get balled up like a bunch of cows pushing through a gate.  The people in line (mostly women) were so much fun to look at and had on their best "going to a fashion designer exhibit" outfits.

And that was just the hor dourves before the scrumptiousness that was the YSL exhibit entree.  The first part was about his life and how he became a protegee of Christian Dior and then started his own house of haute couture. The second part was his clothes and they were beautiful.  The tailoring and workmanship was amazing.  If the curator had put a frame around each garment they were every bit a piece of art as any painting I've ever seen at the DAM.   The desert had to be the very last room which on one side was full to the brim of the most glamorous haute couture gowns in a stunning variety of colors and designs that we hardly even see in this day and age except for perhaps on the Red Carpet.  And the cherry on top, the very last gown, was the one chosen for the front of the exhibition program:

I am very grateful that (a) Yves Saint Laurent was a talented and prolific designer (b) the French powers that be decided to have an exhibition of his work (c) that somehow Denver was the chosen city in America and (d) that I got to go see it
