Odds & Ends

Here are a few odds and ends pictures from this summer.

Love these sandals!  I bought them at at department store called Bealls in Sterling, Colorado for $15.  I had never shopped at a Bealls before, but they have them in different parts of the country like Florida.

Also, I did get down to the Yves St. Laurent exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.  I really wanted to see it and thought it was an opportunity not to be passed by, but I didn't want to make a special trip.  As it turned out, I had to pick up my nephew on July 2nd from the airport and the exhibit was ending on July 8th.  So, I went down the day before on a Sunday afternoon and stood in line with the throngs of others to walk through the exhibit.  Every one's ticket was for a specific time in 15 minute increments so that there was better flow and we didn't all get balled up like a bunch of cows pushing through a gate.  The people in line (mostly women) were so much fun to look at and had on their best "going to a fashion designer exhibit" outfits.

And that was just the hor dourves before the scrumptiousness that was the YSL exhibit entree.  The first part was about his life and how he became a protegee of Christian Dior and then started his own house of haute couture. The second part was his clothes and they were beautiful.  The tailoring and workmanship was amazing.  If the curator had put a frame around each garment they were every bit a piece of art as any painting I've ever seen at the DAM.   The desert had to be the very last room which on one side was full to the brim of the most glamorous haute couture gowns in a stunning variety of colors and designs that we hardly even see in this day and age except for perhaps on the Red Carpet.  And the cherry on top, the very last gown, was the one chosen for the front of the exhibition program:

I am very grateful that (a) Yves Saint Laurent was a talented and prolific designer (b) the French powers that be decided to have an exhibition of his work (c) that somehow Denver was the chosen city in America and (d) that I got to go see it

OoTD - 8/22 - Wino Wednesday

A lady here in Walden had a very good idea to start a Wino Wednesday group this summer.  Basically, a whole bunch of us women have been getting together on Wednesday afternoons for wine, tasty snacks, and talk.  Weather permitting these events have been held on decks, porches, and in back yards.  It is very informal as to who all comes and has spread mostly by word of mouth.  What I really like about it (did I mention wine and food?) is that I get to visit with women that I normally don't see too often or just run into at the post office and say a passing "Hi!" to.  Another thing I appreciate about this is that we are encouraged to dress up more than for a run to the post office.  (It is not uncommon to see pajama bottoms and Crocs at the P.O.) I'm not sure if this group is going to continue into the Fall but I'm going to stock up on a few bottles just in case.

OoTD - 8/21 - What a Busy Summer!

I haven't posted for a long time; June 26th to be exact.  Two things happened.  One, my beloved horse, Duster, died on June 29th and two, on July 2nd, I picked up my nephew from Denver International Airport to stay with us for six weeks.  He and I spent the rest of July together working on the ranch and driving around to various locations in Colorado and Wyoming looking for another horse for me.  So it has been a busy summer to say the least, but with summer almost over I now have a new horse, Dakota, and on August 16th, my nephew returned to his home in Ohio.

So....there is time for fashion and photographs again.

This is an outfit that I wore to work at the Sheriff's Office:

Poppy jacket - New Directions - eBay
Red tank - Liz Claiborne
Capris - St. John's Bay
Sandals - Etienne Aigner
I have decided to forego listing the price I paid for each item for no other reason than laziness.
